4-H COUNCIL MINUTES
for January 10th, 2009
Meeting called to order by Melba Riel at 12:15pm.
Those in attendance: Melba Riel, Anita Raddatz, Corinne Olsen, Cheryl Bartholomew, Karen Poe
Minutes of Dec. 13th council meeting approved unanimously with Motion1-Corinne and Motion 2-Karen with 1 correction (#11 was deleted from minutes).
Recited pledge of allegiance and 4-H pledge.
1. Financial Report- Anita presented current balances as of 12/15/08 in the following accounts:
a. Funds for 4-H Youth Trips, Activities, & Awards
b. 4-H Council Fund
c. Youth Leadership Team Funds
d. Reserve Funds for JYC Meals or Fundraiser
e. 4-H Scholarship Fund
2. Executive Committee minutes: Reviewed what was discussed in Executive Committee meeting on Gec. 19th where Anita, Melba, and Corinne were in attendance. See Executive Team minutes. Next meeting Jan. 16th Friday at 9:30am in Anita’s office.
3. Website update: New address: http://4hsanpete.usu.edu.
4. Update of State 4-H contests- The food contests are changing. The new ones are up on the utah4h website. Anita will find out about what contests are going to be offered at region and state contests before we decide what contests we will do on the county level. Anita will also do an introduction to the contests at 9:30am on Feb. 14th to interested parents. We will investigate the interest in the various contests before we decide which ones to offer.
5. Workshops:
a. Feb. 14th- “Keeping it Green With Junior Master Gardeners” by Darrel Olsen family (see flyer)
b. March 14th- “Time to Make Music” by Darrel Olsen family (see flyer)
Discussion on changing date. Anita does not want to change the date even though it is at the same time as State Leadermete.
c. Ideas for workshops presented and $100 approved for each workshop unanimously for use in the workshops with Motion 1-Corinne and Motion 2-Cheryl
d. Discussed changing music workshop from 4 classes to 3.
a. February 14th- (Darrel & Corinne Olsen family) Junior Master Gardeners
6. 4-H Volunteers: Discussed need for volunteers and the need to be specific in what we are asking for them to do. The council will bring their ideas for workshop themes to the next meeting. When we advertise for volunteers, we can give more specific info. on what we exactly need help with. Possible ideas for workshops: Heritage, Entomology, Prepare for Fair, etc.
7. Scholarship Application: Due March 2nd. State scholarships are for USU but county scholarships can be used anywhere.
8. Nominations & Elections Team- elected Karen and Cheryl unanimously to serve as this Team with Motion 1-Anita and Motion 2-Melba. They will advertise it on Community Bulletin Board and in Anita’s e-news. They will report at next meeting.
9. Ambassadors: Next region meeting on Jan. 19th in Beaver.
Executive Team will come up with a contract for all ambassadors and a county ambassador scorecard for next year and will present it at the next 4-H council meeting.
10. New business for next meeting:
a. Report from Nominations & Elections Team
b. Ambassador and maybe YLT Scorecard
c. Review Region Ambassador application to see if we want to use it for county ambassadors.
d. Themes for workshops
Voted unanimously to adjourn at 1:37 pm (Motion1- Melba, Motion 2-Karen)
