4-H COUNCIL MINUTES
for August 8th, 2009

Meeting called to order by Melba Riel at 12:30pm.

Those in attendance: Melba Riel, Corinne Olsen, Cheryl Bartholomew, Karen Poe, Alexia Bost, Ron Poe, Cheryl Spencer, Daniel Spencer, Shauna Spencer, Jarrod Spencer, Kelsen Spencer, Brent Watson

Minutes of July 11th council meeting approved unanimously with Motion1-Karen and Motion 2-Daniel.
1. Reports:

a. Financial Report- Went over current budget. Clarified JYC balance and how the money is divided (see attached).

b. Nominations & Elections committee: There were no nominations made. The executive team will have to appoint the leaders. Melba Reil is willing to be president again. Karen Poe is willing to be President-elect and Corinne Olsen is willing to be the secretary again.

c. YLT/Ambassadors Report-
They (Sarah Bartholomew, Calan Olsen, Steven Olsen, and Brent Watson) helped Melba with her workshop today. Parades went well. They passed out 4-H fans they had made.
The Sanpete County Fair parade is on the 29th at 5:00pm.
The Palmers will put on a play for the Autumn Park Assisted Living on Wed. @4pm and the
Boekweg’s and Shauna Spencer will demonstrate crafts at 10am.
Braille books are on hold until fall. Karen e-mailed the National Federation of the Blind to make him aware of this. Cheryl S. suggested that they use Scholl’s corn pads to help turn pages.

d. Expansion & Review Team report- Anita is working on survey for the fair. Joann
Christensen won the prize for filling out the survey.

e. County Clubs: Birding/needlework-Melba reported that all is going well.
Rabbitry- Preparing for fair.
Scrapbooking- Waiting until fall.
GPS- Pending
Special Needs craft club- Club meetings are over and items being entered into fair. Needlework club (Gunnison)- Debbie is waiting for paperwork.

f. Promotion: Anita is filming Ron Poe cooking. There will be movies playing at the fair of demos and talents.

g. Sanpete County Fair: Let Cheryl know when you can work. Wal-Mart has put green crates aside to be used to decorate at the fair. There will be a leader recognition at the fair on the 29th at 3pm. Everyone should wear the green shirts. Everyone should wear a 4-H shirt at every 4-H function.

h. Contests: Fashion Revue- August 29th @1pm (Hand-in clothing at fair and pick up clothes at noon and practice modeling)
State Contests- Approved unanimously a stipend of up to 50% of fee per person, NTE a total of $400 for the group with motion 1-Corinne and motion 2-Karen
i. Website update: The videos and some of the pictures are still not on the website.

2. Current business:
a. Workshops:
August 8th - Prepare for Fair (Strut Your Stuff) by Melba-not many there
Approved $25 with Motion1-Karen and Motion 2-Steven
Sept. 12th - Marine biology –unanimously approved $80 more dollars for the workshop with motion 1- Karen and motion 2- Cheryl. Elizabeth Hveem will help with workshop. They will name it “There’s Something Fishy Going on in 4-H”.

Oct.10th - Perform & Record Workshop “There’s No Business Like 4-H Show Business”: (Elizabeth will help)

Nov.14th - Holiday Gifts for family/friends (Cheryl Spencer will help)

b. Scholarship application: Discussion postponed to next meeting.

c. “Formula for Success” program: Discussion postponed until next meeting.

d. New business for next meeting: Workshop strategies and themes, National 4-H week, Theme

e. State calendar items:
August 24th-Sanpete County Fair Entry day (9am-7pm)
August 22nd-29th- Sanpete County Fair
Sept. 1st-TLT applications due
Sept. 3rd- Entry day for State Fair
Sept. 10-20th- Utah State Fair
Sept. 18th- 4-H Day at the State Fair


Voted unanimously to adjourn at 2:00 pm (Motion1- Cheryl, Motion 2-Karen) Next meeting: Sept. 12th at noon.

We all agree that Anita was missed……Get better soon!
