4-H COUNCIL MINUTES
for January 9th, 2010

Meeting called to order by Melba Riel at 1:20 pm.

Those in attendance: Melba Riel, Corinne Olsen, Karen Poe, Alexia Bost, Ron Poe, Calan Olsen, Anita Raddatz

Minutes of last meeting not available so will vote on next council meeting.

1. Reports:

a. Financial Report- Anita handed out current balances.

b. YLT/Ambassadors Report- Calan Olsen
1. Service-braille books started but not bound yet.
2. Ambassador meetings: Jan. 18th, Feb. 20th, March 12-13th (teen retreat)
3. TRY TEAMS: Fun, Food, & Fitness TRY teams did workshop today.
4. Training- Given training in portfolios.
5. Leadermete-May attend Space Camp portion of it.

c. Expansion & Review Team report- This committee serves more than one time a year and it looks at demographics, data, and project areas. It is made up of adults: 1 from a non-profit organization, 1 from a business, 1 from a youth organization, people from different ethnic groups, home school rep., and special needs rep. Surveys are not enough anymore. Anita suggested that we have each council (4-H, Livestock, Horse, & Pets) bring one outside person to this meeting. Will discuss further. Goal is to have at least one meeting by September. Karen Poe says that she fits 3 of these groups. Corinne also suggested calling Sanpete Community Training to find a representative from there. Maybe Los Amigos could be the business. They have been very supportive of 4-H. Other suggestions: high school counselors, JoAnn Hermansen, Yvonne Williams.

d. County Clubs: Needlework-3 doing embroidery. Crochet at Hveems on Wed’s at 3:30pm

Scrapbooking- Cheryl not available to report.

GPS- Karen/Chad
Our county chosen for National survey. Survey will be done online by GPS club members. There will be a permission slip for parents to sign. The Spring City fire hydrant project still needs to be finished. Karen Poe will help the kids finish it on the 3rd Saturday of Jan. There are about 12 fire hydrants that are not included on the current map. First survey has to be done by Jan. 22nd . There are 2 surveys: how to use the GPS’s and the community service part of it. We will present the map to Spring City in February council meeting. Anita has to report what was done during the project to the grant. The other one due in February.

Media project- Anita starting a radio club with those who attended the public speaking workshop today.

e. Promotion: Melba suggested that parade floats show more about what 4-H does.

f. Contests: Cheryl looking for locations for contests but everyone is charging. Anita suggested that maybe we could offer doing a service project in exchange for using a building.

b. Scholarship endowment application: Discussion postponed to next meeting.

c. 4-H Achievement Card/ YLT & Ambassador score cards/Pin awards for new year: make available to public earlier. Discussion of Achievement Cards rough draft. Suggestions: Add impromptu speaking and County/Region ambassadors, Change point to 15-19 Bronze, 20-24 Silver, 25+Gold for Intermediate. 12- 14 Bronze, 15-17 Silver, and 18+Gold for Junior. The points stay the same as last years for Senior division. There will not be a separate ambassador point card.
Next years dates for end of year awards: 1st Friday in October

d. Leadermete- March 31st-April 2nd. Location: Utah County Administration Building, Provo. 149 workshops offered. Theme: Take the Lead. $55 early bird registration open Jan. 1st. Late registration after Feb. 28th for $75/person. Anita and Cheryl are presenting Portfolios, Public Speaking, & Media Project. Marriott hotel rooms for $70-90/night. Exec. Team suggested that we offer 5 scholarships to new leaders that attend. First come first served. They will get $25 after they attend the Leadermete. They need to be registered 4-H leaders. If attendees to the Leadermete car pool with others the county will pay their gas money out of the county budget. Did not vote on it.
