4-H COUNCIL MINUTES

for June 12th , 2010

Meeting called to order by Melba Riel at 1:45 pm.

Those in attendance: Melba Riel, Corinne Olsen, Karen Poe, Alexia Bost, Ron Poe, Cheryl Bartholomew

Minutes of April meeting approved unanimously with Motion 1-Corinne and Motion 2-Karen.

Minutes of Nov. meeting unavailable so still needs a vote.

1. Reports:

a. Financial Report- Cheryl showed us the financial report.

b. YLT/Ambassadors Report- Cheryl/Sarah/Karen

1. Service-braille books almost done. There are 19 books.

Yard Sale went well. They earned just over $50 for the food bank.

Other service ideas that YLT talked about: Adopt a Highway (Eli checking into it), Tie a quilt and donate to hospital for babies (Anita will possibly donate the batting), clean up after ball games.

2. TRY TEAMS: Recharge did a workshop today and it went well. They have one more to go. The Robotics camp went well. There were 19 participants. The science TRY team will do some classes at the same time as Melba’s sewing workshop.

3. Parades- YLT members voted on using $50/parade for candy.

c. Expansion & Review Team report- Nothing to report/Anita not here

d. County Clubs: Hooks & Needles club in Mt. Pleasant- A little topsy turvy right now, may not finish items for the fair but may have projects finished from last year.

Fingers on Fire club at Hveems- on Wed. at 2:00pm

GPS- Anita needs to call and get update. They finished mapping the hydrants on the computer. They have to be printed.

Scrapbook club- Cheryl

May do a camp in July with the family tree.

Media project-Anita/Cheryl

Audiocast- Anita

Special Needs Craft Club: Going well. Have 4 more times. 18 members.

e. Promotion: Cheryl was on table talk for Anita.

f. Contests:

June 19th- 4-H Cooking Contests @ Snow College kitchens

?- Region Contests (no contest as of now)

2. Current business:

a. Workshops:

July 10th- TRY Science activities (YLT)-Recharge (Karen may help)

How to: Visual Displays

August 14th- Create for Fair (Thrift Sewing)/TRY Science-Melba (Nannette possibly)

Someone could teach the mechanics of the sewing machine. (Sterling Scholars????)

How to: Fair Judging

Sept. 11th- Aerospace activities at Fly-in at Mt. Pleasant airport (YLT/4-H leaders)

Not sure how it will work because scouts are doing a lot of it.

b. Scholarship committee- They met and presented the new version of the scholarship form. Voted to approve it unanimously. Motion 1:Karen, Motion 2: Corinne

c. Achievement Night: Cheryl said that we are doing it at the Ephraim Senior Citizen’s Center on Thurs., Sept. 30th at 6pm. Make forms available there.

d. JYC: Gandolfo’s is doing the sack lunches (sandwiches are 2 inches shorter), Pizza Gallery is doing the pizzas. Wheelers, Manti Grocery, Kent’s, Maverick, Terrel’s, Gunnison Market, etc. were invited to bid on providing the food. Wheelers and Kent’s are the only ones to respond so far. We are doing the same basic menu as last year. Homemade rootbeer with the pizza.
