4-H COUNCIL MINUTES
for July 10th , 2010

Meeting called to order by Melba Riel at 1:21 pm.

Those in attendance: Melba Riel, Corinne Olsen, Karen Poe, Anita Raddatz, Ron Poe, Cheryl Bartholomew

Minutes of June meeting approved unanimously with Motion 1-Anita and Motion 2-Cheryl.
Minutes of Nov. meeting unavailable so still needs a vote.

1. Reports:

a. Financial Report- Didn’t have one to show.

b. YLT/Ambassadors Report- Cheryl/Sarah/Karen
1. Service-braille books almost done. The kids need to finalize the books and write the words out above the foam pictures. Tied a baby quilt and will tie one next month.
2. Ambassador applications due July 15th.
3. TRY TEAMS: Robotics day camp went well. Lotions and Potions finished in May. Recharge finished today. There will be a Space TRY team available next year that requires training with the state. The county will be responsible to do the training with the other TRY teams.
4. Parades- County Ambassadors will be responsible for the schedule next year. Not doing Lamb Days but will be doing the 24th of July in Mayfield and the county fair parade on August 28th. 5 kids did the Gunnison parade on July 4th.
5. Training- There will be a county training for ambassadors in August. The Region & County Ambassadors will be responsible for National Promotion Week. Officers for YLT will be elected from the ambassadors and will serve a 6 month term and then new officers will be elected.

c. Expansion & Review Team report- Have a committee but it hasn’t met yet.

d. County Clubs: Hooks & Needles club in Mt. Pleasant- Mt. Pleasant on hiatus. Ephraim club added one girl. Have not met for 2 weeks but should meet this week.
GPS- Chad is redoing the maps. They got ruined.

Scrapbook club- Cheryl
Summer camp on July 21st-22nd or July 28-29th. 7 scrapbook pages for $15.

Media project-Anita/Cheryl
Ron is the only one who has done it so far.

Audiocast- Anita
Had to stop early because visitors were distracting group. Will start again in September.

Special Needs Craft Club: Steven/Corinne
Done and will put items in the fair. Went well.

e. Promotion: Anita reported that the website has been advertised in the e-news. Anita started Thursday providing hours in an office in Centerfield. 2 people came in and were very excited to have her there.

f. Contests:

June 19th- 4-H Cooking Contests (Ron was the only one who participated)

g. Website update: Anita reported that pages have been added to the website and more to come this week.

2. Current business:
a. Workshops:

August 14th- Create for Fair (Thrift Sewing)/TRY Science-Melba
9-11am, for all ages, Room 119, bring own sewing machine if you want to
Nannette Watson will be teaching how to make a stuffed volleyball or 9-patch pillow
Melba will be teaching how to make a coin purse, hot pads, long strap satchel, sit upon, & a pocket knife holder. Melba and Anita visited a thrift store to prepare for this workshop. $100 approved unanimously (Motion1- Corinne, Motion 2- Karen)
How to: Fair Judging
Sept. 11th- Aerospace activities at Fly-in at Mt. Pleasant airport
Mr. Fullmer will let Anita know what they want us to do.

b. Scholarship committee- Due August 2nd. It is on the website.

c. Achievement Night: Cheryl said that we are doing it at the Ephraim Senior Citizen’s Center on Thurs., Sept. 30th at 6pm.

d. JYC: Earned $5451.86, Spent $3241.78. Made more even though less people came. Cheryl was commended for a job well done. The concessions at the horse show went well and the proceeds will go toward the achievement night budget.

e. New business for next meeting: Special contests at the fair (aprons, science, cookies, crochet, etc.)
