4-H COUNCIL MINUTES
for May 9th, 2009

Meeting called to order by Melba Riel at 12:25pm.

Those in attendance: Melba Riel, Anita Raddatz, Corinne Olsen, Cheryl Bartholomew, Karen Poe, Alexia Poe, Ron Poe, Elizabeth Hveem, Calan Olsen, Steven Olsen, Sarah Bartholomew, Brandon Hveem, Brent Watson

Recited pledge of allegiance and 4-H pledge.

Gave Certificates of Achievement and pins to outgoing and incoming county and region ambassadors. Anita emphasized importance of being an ambassador and giving input in meetings.

Minutes of April 8th council meeting approved unanimously with Motion1-Karen and Motion 2-Cheryl.


1. Financial Report- Anita showed us the current financial report. Karen needs popcorn for June workshop. There is not a line item for “Fun on the Farm” yet because the deposits haven’t been made. “Fun on the Farm” has had $785.00 in donations thus far.

2. Website update: In the near future, the website will contain various links you can go to for different information. The Talent and Demo. Contests will be put on there. They have been broadcast on Channel 10.

3. JYC- Approved a stipend of $250 total (up to 50% of the fee) for JYC attendees with motion 1-Anita and motion 2-Elizabeth. Passed around sheets to help with JYC meals. Melba will help on Mon. and Wed. YLT also signed up in their meeting in a minimum for 4 slots.

4. Inventory: Cheryl gave us a copy of the completed inventory (see attached).

5. Reports:
a. Nominations & Elections committee: Anita will advertise the need for 4-H Council officers again in her e-news.

b. YLT/Ambassadors Report- Cheryl and Elizabeth will be the mentors for the YLT and ambassadors. The YLT and ambassadors will walk in the Scandinavian Parade. They will have a booth, also. They had there first meeting today and gave them folders and explained their responsibilities.

c. Expansion & Review Team report- Anita will report results of survey at next meeting.

d. Service: Cheryl Bartholomew said that YLT will be making books with foam cutouts and braille for the National Federation for the Blind. Karen said that the rain sticks will be given to South Sanpete School District to be distributed. There will probably be some leftover to give to the North Sanpete preschool.

e. County Clubs: Birding/needlework-Melba reported that they have had their first birding field trip and will make bird feeders next week. She now has 5 in her Mt. Pleasant needlework club and 6 in her birding club. Some in her needlework club are ready to start doing a project.

Rabbitry/dogs/goats- Going well. Next meeting on Wed. at 4pm

Scrapbooking- Undergoing changes.

GPS- 2/3 of Spring City’s fire hydrants are mapped out. There are 3 N-S roads left. They will finish it in June and present it to the city in August or September.

Special Needs craft club- Probably start the third week in June on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10-noon.


f. Promotion: Karen and Ron have made a promotional flyer to be distributed to county middle schools and high schools. Bookmarks are in libraries, city halls, some senior centers, and in the “Bread Box”.

g. Workshops:
June 13th - Plant science –Karen will do a class on corn. Elizabeth may help.
Matt Palmer will help. $20 approved unanimously with Motion 1-Karen and Motion 2-Corinne.

July 11th - Heritage –Karen will do a class on animal hides.
Melba will do a class on Utah travel with a map.
Other ideas: family tree, scrapbook, “About Me” book, US History
Cheryl Bartholomew will oversee this workshop. $100 approved with motion 1-Cheryl and motion 2-Corinne.

August 8th - Prepare for Fair (Strut Your Stuff) by Melba

Sept. 12th - Marine biology –Karen will do a class on sea turtles.

Oct.10th - Perform & Record Visual Arts

Nov.14th - Holiday Crafts

h. Sanpete County Fair: Anita is going to document the progress on the “Fun on the Farm” project from start to finish on video with the help of her husband. Can bring down ATV sizing truck and could possibly do certification. There is an ATV certification camp in Jun for 8-15 yr. olds at Palisades.

i. Contest: GPS-cancelled

Fashion Revue- June 20th (clothes due the night before for construction judging)
Favorite Foods- June 20th (tentative)

j. New business for next meeting: none
