4-H COUNCIL MINUTES
for October 10th, 2009
Meeting called to order by Melba Riel at 1:22 pm.
Those in attendance: Melba Riel, Corinne Olsen, Cheryl Bartholomew, Karen Poe, Alexia Bost, Ron Poe, Ron Poe, Sr., Brent Watson, Anita Raddatz
Minutes of Sept. 18thcouncil meeting approved unanimously with Motion1-Cheryl and Motion 2-Karen.
1. Reports:
a. Financial Report- Report was unavailable.
b. YLT/Ambassadors Report-
1. Service-braille books started.
2. Promotion week- Calan, Steven, and Samantha Olsen put a poster in Ephraim Elem., Manti Elem., and EMS. Some of the YLT participated in Bake And Take week. Ron Poe, Steven O., Samantha O., Calan O., Sarah Bartholomew, and Brent Watson wrote a newspaper article for the 4-H insert.
3. Ambassador meetings: Nov. 13th, Jan. 18th, Feb. 20th, March 12-13th (teen retreat)
4. TLT: Those who attended: Chelsea Black, Sarah Bartholomew, Brandon Hveem, Brent Watson, Jennifer Muller, Adeline Muller, and Saebra Muller. .
Brent reported that it was a great retreat and they received their TRY training. They have to teach 15 kids for 6 hours in the area they have been trained in. If they have received any TRY training, they may help in the other areas if they want to.
5. Parades: Manti Light Parade-11/27 at 6pm
Ephraim Light Parade-12/5 Will hand out fans and bookmarks.
6. Dec. YLT activity: They discussed what they will be doing for the assisted living center for the Christmas program. Everyone signed up for something.
c. Expansion & Review Team report- Needs a committee. Survey wasn’t done at the fair. Anita will send in email next week. Survey will concentrate more on how to market 4-H. This committee meeting is not to be done during council meeting and it should include community members from businesses, schools, etc.
d. County Clubs: Needlework-Lost 2 members but gained 1. 3 have turned in paperwork.
Scrapbooking- Sarah is going to be the youth leader. Leader is trying to catch up.
GPS- Pending
e. Promotion: Parades well accepted by other counties. Discussion on being in homecoming parades. Decided to stick with other parades and to not do homecoming parades due to the 4-H members school involvement. 4-H office has gone through rearrangement of office space. 2 signs are still coming and 1 for the window. Insert coming along.
f. Contests:
April 10th- 4-H Talent/public speaking/robotics/ demos/ Fashion Revue Expo.
June 12th- 4-H Cooking Contests-will use kitchens at Snow College
Wal-Mart & State of Utah is giving prizes to each county.
g. Website update: Going to strictly go to blogs as links.

Nov.14th- TRY Science activities (TRY Lotions & Potions Team) (9-11am)
($100.00 approved with motion1 –Karen and motion 2-Corinne)
How to: Portfolios (9-11am)
Dec. 12th- Gifts for Family (Cheryl) ($100.00 approved with motion1 –Karen and motion 2-Corinne)
Ideas: Tile magnets, Vinyl messages on tiles, mug, snowman, secret bottle, make snow.
TRY Lotions and Potions team will help.
Jan. 9th- TRY Science activities (TRY Science team)
How to: Public Speaking
Feb. 13th- TRY Science activities (TRY Science team)
How to: Fashion Revue

March 13th- TRY Science activities (TRY Science team)

Sept. 11th- Aerospace activities at Fly-in at Mt. Pleasant airport (YLT/4-H leaders)
b. Scholarship application: Discussion postponed to next meeting.
c. “Formula for Success” program: Changed name to Media Project to go under technology mandate. See attached rules.
d. Achievement night: Nov. 12th at 6pm on lower campus. Portfolios, pin awards, sec. books, and achievement awards due first Friday of October next year. YLT/Ambassador score cards due the first Friday in April.
e. New business for next meeting: Achievement score card for next year.
